Literature Text

My eyes greedily consume the dazzling display around me,
They have longed for luminosity for quite some time now.
This is finally my chance to take in.
From the rays of blinking light bulbs
To the flashing neon glow of the blue, green, or red variety.
From flickering flames, balancing on shortening wicks
To the city glitters glimmering into the crashing green waves of the moonlit bay.
The twinkling sprinkles splattered across the midnight sky
And the thousands of illuminated windows
That tower above the sheen, slick sidewalks
Which are bathed in the yellow glow of the street lamps.
The steady, brilliant beams of headlights that zoom by
Saturate the salty sea air, and add to the
The radiance that encompasses me in a warm embrace.
I want to soak up all the light.
Like a solar panel absorbing streams of sunshine,
I'm saving it up for darker days.
A poem based upon a memory.
